How a national rollout
actually gets done.
Senapt runs smart metering programmes to a proven four stage method, adapted here for Liberia and LEC.
Foundation
Programme governance with LEC, technical standards agreed, and the commercial and regulatory groundwork signed off before a single meter moves.
- Joint LEC and Senapt programme team
- Standards and interoperability sign-off
- Baseline network and loss assessment
Engage and survey
Community meetings, customer education and door to door surveys so every household knows what is changing and every connection is mapped.
- Community and vendor briefings
- Customer and premises survey
- Site readiness and access checks
Data and systems
Clean customer data, head end and vending systems integrated with LEC billing, and mobile money channels connected end to end.
- Customer data cleansing and migration
- Head end and billing integration
- Top-up channels live and tested
Deploy and operate
Certified technicians install area by area, then the grid runs on live data with local support, spares and continuous monitoring.
- Area by area installation waves
- Local technician training
- Monitoring, support and maintenance
Built with Liberians,
for Liberia.
The rollout is not just about meters. It is about people, trust, and skills that remain in the country.
26 community programs run in Liberia
Trust is built before the first survey. We run education and engagement programmes so customers know what smart metering means and why it matters.
Area-by-area rollout
We deploy feeder by feeder and community by community, so support stays close and every area is ready before the next wave starts.
Local capacity that lasts
Senapt and LEC train local technicians and support staff. The skills stay in Liberia long after the installation teams move on.
What customers ask us.
Can't find your answer? Call LEC customer service or email us and we'll be happy to help.
Does a smart meter make electricity more expensive?
No. The tariff is set by LEC and is the same as before. What changes is accuracy: you are billed for exactly what you use, not an estimate.
What happens if my credit runs out at night?
Your CIU and the myWatts app warn you well before credit runs out. Emergency credit can be applied so you're not left in the dark before you can top up.
How do I top up?
Through mobile money (Orange Money, MTN MoMo), any authorised LEC vendor, or the myWatts app. You receive a 20-digit token; enter it on your CIU or it's applied automatically.
Does the installation cost anything?
During the national rollout, existing LEC customers are upgraded at no installation fee. Contact LEC or your nearest vendor to book a slot.
Can I see how much power I'm using?
Yes. Live balance and consumption history are shown in myWatts on mobile and web.
